Overview
Completed over 1 day – the Saturday; pairs or solos; 105 miles covered; full logistical support; £175 standard price per person.
You need to be at least 18 years old to take part in the event. Please note that if you enter as a pair you MUST stay together throughout the course. If you reach check points separately the results system will automatically rank you as ‘disqualified’.
Racer is designed for those looking to complete the full Scotland Coast to Coast route in a day (Saturday 15th Sept), who are comfortable with covering these sorts of distances in event environments and who may have some experience of multi-sport racing; whether adventure racing, triathlon, long distance running or similar. You can take part as a pair or a solo participant and you will use the same bike throughout.
Is this for me?
Scotland Coast to Coast Racers are under no illusion that the challenge that faces them is stiff. 105 miles of the Highlands completed within a day is no picnic, especially with almost a marathon’s worth of running/ trekking in there, plus short sections of kayaking (no advanced skill required). This is a race, but it’s up to you whether the race is against the clock or against yourself. With cut-offs imposed though in order for you to complete the route in daylight, you won’t be hanging around. You should be a confident biker, both off road and on and be a strong runner too. The race is on.
Route summary and stage lengths
All Scotland Coast to Coast participants will experience the same route. Racers will complete the same route as Challenger participants, with a one-way multi-sport journey over 109 miles from Nairn to Glencoe. You will complete this within a 13 hour period. This racer category is fully supported logistically by the event. You will use the same bike throughout and you will use our kayaks. This means that you can travel light to and from the event. You will need to manage your own footwear transitions. i.e. you may choose to use the same footwear throughout, OR you may choose to use cycling shoes and running shoes, and carry the shoes not in use, in your pack.
The stage lengths are as follows:
- Trek/Run - 7 miles (5 miles off-road)
- Road Cycle - 48 miles
- Mini Kayak & Run - 2 miles max
- Off-Road & Road Cycle - 33 miles (16 miles off-road)
- Trek/Run - 14 miles (12 miles off-road)
- Kayak - 1 mile
- Short run to finish line

Bike Choices
You will use the same bike throughout your day. This could be a mountain bike, hybrid or cyclo-cross bike. Road bikes are not recommended though they would be possible to use if you add good tyres, good pressures and a dose of skill. The bike choice for this class will become quite a talking point that’s for sure. We do not allow the use of other bikes as we want this category to be as pure as possible and also to not encourage support from others on route outside of the designed transition areas. In the mid-summer we will give more detail on the characteristics of the trails.
